From Concept to an NAHB Award in 8 years, Salesfish Software

The verb “innovate” means to make changes in something established, by introducing new methods, ideas or products.

According to that definition, Rob Nicolucci and Rick Haws are innovators in the truest sense of the word, as co-founders of Salefish Software, a Concord, Ontario-based company that offers a cloud-based point-of-sale (POS) software program, unique to the real estate industry.

In 2016, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) named Salefish Software as its Global Innovation Award winner for 2015. The Award recognizes the most cutting-edge, advanced and original product offerings and/or marketing strategies submitted by member companies serving the building industry.

Clients pay licensing, set-up and monthly fees to use Salefish, which provides a multitude of services including a sales office interactive experience, a point of sale application that can be used on site or remotely, and a customer-facing application enabling them to buy homes and condos online. These help to streamline the paperwork process for builders, developers and salespeople, as well as creating a more positive experience for buyers. During the award year, one in every six low-rise homes in the Greater Toronto Area and Greater Golden Horseshoe was sold using the software.

Nicolucci and Haws of RN Design (one of Canada’s largest and most successful residential design firms, which did ground breaking work in 2000 in the dimensioning of floor plans) are industry insiders with firsthand knowledge of the complexities of bringing a new home community or condominium to life. Among them is the frustration of the ever-changing status of which sites/suites are sold. Nicolucci and Haws also understand the costs when sales mistakes are made because of the lack of up-to-date information. They saw glitches in the critical information path among stakeholders and decided to do something about it. From their discussions in 2007, the company grew from offering Living Siting Analysis in 2008 to what it is today, operating on iPads, Tablets and LED displays with interactive touch screens.

Each year, the NAHB looks for the best combination of design, functionality, innovation and usefulness to builders and home-buyers. Salefish fits seamlessly with NAHB’s goal of bringing technology and expertise to its global membership. NAHB Board Chair Roger Lyons presented the 2016 Award and said, “Salefish offers a unique software product that allows for greater ease in the home buying process for both buyers and sellers. I am pleased to honor Salefish with this award, and look forward to seeing its positive effects on the industry.”
